UNA Heritage Scholarship Application
FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS
Eligibility
A UNA Heritage Scholarship applicant must:
- Have been an active, premium-paying UNA member for at least two years by June 1 of the filing year
- Have a policy valued at a minimum of $5,000 during the last two years (Term Life policies excluded)
- Be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited junior college, college or university on a full-time or part-time basis in the United States or Canada
Applications
The application for a UNA Heritage Scholarship must be completed in its entirety, signed and dated, and postmarked no later than June 1.
The following must be submitted along with the application:
- Transcripts of grades from the most recent fall and spring semesters
- Passport-size photo of the student
- Essay of 400-500 words on one of these topics:
- – How does being of Ukrainian/American/Canadian heritage benefit and/or challenge your personal future in an increasingly diverse global context?
- – How do our Ukrainian heritage, traditions, institutions/organizations contribute to our society in North America?
- – Why is the UNA relevant to our community into the future?
UNA Heritage Scholarships are granted for one academic year only; for renewal of a scholarship, a new application and updated documents must be submitted.
Students can file for multiple scholarships offered by the UNA if they meet the eligibility requirements.
Criteria used by UNA Scholarship Committee in reviewing applicants:
- Academic achievement
- Community and college activity
- Awards and honors
- Content of essay

UNA Special Scholarship Application
FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
The UNA offers six Special Scholarships:
- One $2,000 scholarship for a student excelling in the sciences or accounting
- College students who are freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply
- One $2000 scholarship for a student who is studying political science full-time.
- Students must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.
- Undergraduate students studying political science are eligible to apply.
- Applicant must submit a short essay as to why they have chosen to study Political Science.
- Scholarship recipient must annually send their transcripts to the donors.
- One $1,000 scholarship for a student of Ukrainian heritage excelling in his/her studies
- College students who are freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply
- The Maria and Taras Slevinsky Scholarship will provide students who are studying nursing full time $1,000 per year.
- Students must have a UNA qualifying policy; Students must be studying nursing full time; Students must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada; Students must submit a completed UNA scholarship application and provide a brief essay.
- One $1000 scholarship for a Philadelphia District Branch member (Philadelphia branches that qualify are 10, 83, 153, 162, 163, 173, 362, 397, and 501)
- College students who are freshman, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply
- Undergraduate students studying in the medical field
Applicants must indicate on their application for which UNA Special Scholarship(s) they wish to apply.

UNA Award Application
FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
Students receive a monetary award depending on their year of study: freshmen receive the lowest award amounts, while seniors receive the highest awards. Amounts awarded by the UNA Scholarship Committee depend on the availability of UNA funds in any given year.

Community

Newspapers
The UNA publishes two newspapers: Svoboda in the Ukrainian language (published since 1893) and The Ukrainian Weekly in English (published since 1933).
Both papers have reputations of being top-quality, well-respected news sources about events and happenings in Ukraine and Ukrainian communities throughout the world. Soyuzivka Heritage Center
Nestled in the mountains of beautiful New York state, the Soyuzivka Heritage Center offers visitors a unique experience by immersing them in a Ukrainian environment.
Through workshops, seminars, camps, festivals, art shows, concerts and a host of other activities, you can expand your knowledge of the rich Ukrainian heritage and traditions. In addition, Soyuzivka Heritage Center serves as a wonderful gathering place to meet with old friends and form new friendships.
