Online gala “Rekindle the Magic of Soyuzivka” raises over $200k

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – A virtual winter gala, “Rekindle the Magic of Soyuzivka” that was hosted online on January 16 by the Ukrainian National Foundation, an affiliated company of the Ukrainian National Association, raised more than $200,000 to benefit the Soyuzivka Heritage Center in Kerhonkson, N.Y. The gala was organized with the aim of raising funds for the continued operation of Soyuzivka, which has faced significant financial hurdles as a result of ongoing pandemic restrictions. Those restrictions have temporarily shuttered the center’s camps, festivals and other in-person events.

UNA welcomes Andrew Nynka

The Ukrainian National Association is pleased to introduce to our readers Andrew Nynka, who on December 1, 2020, assumed the responsibilities of editor-in-chief of the UNA publications, Svoboda and The Ukrainian Weekly.

Mr. Nynka is an experienced and awarded journalist, researcher and teacher.  He has a doctorate in journalism from the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism, a master’s degree in journalism from New York University, and a bachelor’s degree from Muhlenberg College. He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to Ukraine, where he conducted dissertation research and taught journalism at both the Ukrainian Catholic University and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

UNA’s New Jersey District holds fall organizing meeting virtually

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – The New Jersey District Committee of the Ukrainian National Association held its fall organizing meeting on November 16 via videoconference. It was the first virtual meeting ever for the district.

Participating were representatives of UNA Branches 37, 42, 76, 133, 171, 234, 269 and 287.

The meeting was chaired by Oksana Stanko, district chairperson. In attendance as a representative of the UNA Executive Committee was Yuriy Symczyk, UNA chief operating officer/national secretary.

Her contribution to our association has been invaluable and her commitment to excellence unequaled. Ms. Hadzewycz’s encyclopedic knowledge of UNA history will be greatly missed, as will her dedication, talent, professionalism and experience.
